Wilson lived in Anderson from 1921 to 1928, during his service as an executive of Delco-Remy Corporation, a division of General Motors Corporation. He becaome President of General Motors Corporation in 1941, and was nominated by President Dwight David Eisenhower to serve as Secretary of Defense, a position he occupied from 1951 to 1957. The Collection includes personal correspondence, bound volumens of Wilson's speeches, and scrapbooks of clippings.
